The Importance of Art and Design
Creativity engages, inspires and challenges pupils, enabling them to invent and create their own works of art. Art also plays an important part in shaping history and culture.
The national curriculum for art and design aims to ensure that all pupils:
- produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
- become proficient in drawing, painting, sculpture and other art, craft and design techniques
- evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art, craft and design
- know about great artists, craft makers and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms.
The subject of Art and Design allows the children to express themselves and enhances self esteem. The use of art in the curriculum enables children to have a more active role in their own learning, and accommodates different learning styles. This enables the children to develop confidence, competence and imagination.
