Geography

 

“A high –quality geography education should inspire in pupils a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people that will remain with them for the rest of their lives.”

During their time in Key Stage 1 pupils will develop knowledge about the world, the United Kingdom and their locality. They will learn to use   basic subject - specific vocabulary relating to human and physical geography and begin to use geographical skills, including first hand observation , to enhance their locational awareness.

 During their time in Key stage 2 pupils will have the opportunity to extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the local area to include the United Kingdom and Europe, North and South America. This will include the location and characteristics of a range of the world’s most significant human and physical features. Pupils will learn to develop their use of geographical knowledge , understanding and skills to enhance their locational and place knowledge.

At Springfield House school we teach geography through the Cornerstones Innovative Learning Projects. Children are provided with opportunities to develop their geographical knowledge and skills through a variety of exciting topics.
